My cooperating teacher, Mrs. Nootchanat Srithimuangchai is one of those teachers who uses activities to fully engage the learners in the discussion. Her style of teaching prompts the learners to ask more questions and find answers or solutions through their own discovery. This method used by my cooperating teacher engage the learners and at some point lets them practice their thinking skills while retaining the new set of knowledge gained.
Interaction with the learners is one of the challenges of using her teaching style, to address this sometimes she uses technology (presentations, multimedia etc.) to discuss a topic. It's is more of being a teacher who's a facilitator and a coach at the same time. A facilitator because she leads the learners to discover rather than spoon feed them with new knowledge and a coach because she demonstrates some topics or parts of the discussion through the use of multimedia. The teacher utilizes the use of traditional instructional materials and technology based materials.
Sometimes, she mainly use the student's book and the workbook in teaching them but the good thing is that she also use interactive videos and research more about the discussion using other reference books and the internet. She uses the internet when she needs to look for new games or new activities to the discussion or if she needs to add more information about the lesson.
To measure if the learners are really learning, she lets them answer their workbooks and at the end of the week she gives them a mini test to see if they gained a new knowledge about the discussion. There are also a few times where she use activities and games to test the learning gained by the learners.
I am also given the opportunity to observe the other English teachers of the school, the only thing that I can say is that all of them fully engage their learners to activities which enables them to learn the subject by having fun while learning it. I am surprised of the way they handle the learners and the activities they use in the class.
